Ceres

The Ceres Valley enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate and combined with fertile soils, is perfect for cultivating vegetables and deciduous fruit. In fact, it was because of this bounty that the town and valley were named after the Roman goddess of fruitfulness.

A thriving agricultural industry has developed in the valley, locally known as the Koue Bokkeveld and Warm Bokkeveld; it now produces approximately 30% of the apples and 50% of the pears cultivated in South Africa.

Located about 170km north east of Cape Town, the town of Ceres offers a well-developed infrastructure for the packing and processing of these crops. It is from here that fresh fruit, fruit juices and fruit concentrates are shipped locally and exported around the world.
